Social media screening analyzes public posts and public activity by a candidate. Social media screening identifies content with possible risk indicators, such as hate speech, insults, bullying, offensive language, violence, drug use, and potentially illegal behaviors. Other custom keywords can be programmed into searches. Done correctly, social media screening can give you more job-relevant insights into a candidate.

A compliant social media background check shows public content from job-relevant risk categories, which might include comments on Facebook that cite a specific racial slur or photos on Instagram that are flagged for violence. It doesn’t hack into, or scrape information from, private accounts. Not every post, picture, or comment is shown.

All you need to request a social media check is a person’s name and email address. Candidates will provide details of active profiles during the background check.

The process for the candidate is simple. Here’s how it works:

  1. The candidate consents to social media screening and has the option to provide their online profiles.
  2. The check searches public posts and content for predefined risk categories or custom keywords.
  3. Relevant content is flagged in a report – not every post, picture, or comment is shown.
  4. Findings are consolidated into a report with a relevancy rating to indicate whether content belongs to the candidate.

After the candidate successfully submits their background check, social media checks can be returned in 1-2 business days.
